PTO Planning 'Yantacaw Family Swap' for May 10
• Give Away What You Don't Want, Take What You Do - 9 am to 12 Noon
Apr 29, 2008 – To help foster a commitment as a school community to reduce, reuse, and recycle, the Yantacaw PTO is hosting its first "Yantacaw Family Swap."
Students, parents, teachers, and their families along with friends are invited to bring items they can no longer use, and take ones they can, all absolutely free. Items might include such things as DVDs, videos, CDs, video and computer games, books, puzzles, toys, games, sports equipment, snow gear, shoes, jackets, baby gear, kids clothes, small household items, and more.
"You can clean out your closets, garage, basement, toy box, and book shelves of unwanted items that are still in very good condition, then come home with some new-to-you treasures," say Maria Geltrude and Lori DiAntonio, Yantacaw PTO co-presidents.
"By swapping, we're helping keep excess garbage out of our landfills. It's also a great opportunity to get together, share, and have fun. What's left at the end of the Swap will benefit our extended community by going to local charities."
"The best way for students to learn the value of reducing, reusing, and recycling is for them to do it in their everyday lives," adds Yantacaw Principal Mary Lou Dowse.
"I think it's tremendous that our PTO is sponsoring events like the Yantacaw Family Swap that help our children experience first-hand how to do the right thing and have fun at the same time."
The PTO requests that Yantacaw School community members drop off items at the Yantacaw School gym on Friday, May 9 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Please make sure items are in good condition and working order.
If you have large items you would like to swap, you can bring a description and/or photo with your contact information to post on the Swap bulletin board.
If you have items you would like to swap but cannot make it during the designated drop-off time or otherwise need assistance, please contact the Swap organizers to arrange a pick-up.
The Swap will take place in the Yantacaw School gym on Saturday, May 10 between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. The event and all items are free. You don't have to bring something to take something. Whatever is left at the end of the Swap will be donated to local charities.
