Jun 6, 2012 – Commissioner Steve Rogers' plan to create a Nutley Military and Veterans Affairs Bureau was adopted unanimously by Mayor Alphonse Petracco and the township commission last night.
A delegation of veterans from Nutley Post 493 was also on hand to applaud the initiative.
"The service provided by our veterans in Nutley is staggering to me," Mayor Alphonse Petracco said as he joined his colleagues in approving Rogers' initiative by a unanimous vote.
"The Military and Veterans Affairs Bureau will be a collaborative partnership of the entire Board of Commissioners and their respective departments," Rogers emphasized in his sponsored resolution.
The new bureau will be maintained by the Nutley Dept. of Public Affairs that falls under Rogers' responsibility.
"Free services will be provided to all Nutley veterans, those who are active, reservists, and their spouses and children," Rogers stated in his resolution last night.
Among the planned services are assistance in finding employment, financial planning, educational benefits, counseling for retiring veterans and their families, basic health care check-ups, and assistance with home retention, property maintenance and legal affairs.
