BOYS TENNIS:
• Verona Wins in Tennis Friday
Nutley High's boys tennis team was shutout by Verona Friday afternoon (6/1/2012) in matches played at the winner's courts. The victory was Verona's 18th against eight loses for the season while Nutley's record stands at 7-13.
Nutley's only score came when Jan Cepeda and Harley Minano won the second of three matches in the second doubles.
First Singles – Matt Tuorto (V) defeated Kevin Robinson, 6-6, 1-2.
Second Singles – Alejandro Diaz (V) defeated Joe Codomo, 6-2, 6-3.
First Doubles – Mike Jack and Steven McMickle (V) defeated Charlie Bingham and Steve DelGrande, 6-4, 6-4.
Second Doubles – Matt Brehne and Dan Sajle (V) defeated Jan Copeda and Harley Minano, 6-3, 3-6, 6-=-4.
Nutley blanketed Bloomfield 5-0 Wednesday (5/16) in what may have been the team's best showing of the season. Unfortunately one day later at Seton Hall Prep, the Nutley team failed to win a single match.
Dragos Stemate won both the first and second singles for the varsity boys defeating Bloomfield's Jassen Hristov in both matches, 6-2/6-0 and 6-1/6-1.
Nutley's Kevin Robionson took all the second singles matches defeating Kevin Robinson. Joe Codomo continued the victory streak for Nutley in thethird singles with two 6-2 march wins over Bloomfield's Kevin Kaderis.
Charlie Binghamand Steve DelGrande blanketed Bloomfield in the first doubles by 6-0 scores. In the second doubles it was Jan Cepeda and William Flores' defeatging Varun Ranparilya and Pier Rodriguez 6-2, 6-3.
Nutley's Jan Cepeda and William Flores of Nutley won the second doubles over Varun Ranparlya and Pier Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 7-5.
Nutley 5, Irvington 0 (May 7)
Nutley tennis players celebrated a 5-0 victory over Irvington Monday afternoon at Glotzback Park. The victory leaves Nutley with a 4-10-0 season record.

First Singles - Dragos Stemate (N) defeated Shavon Watson (I),6-0, 6-0.
Second Singles - Kevin Robinson (N) defeated Fabian Morgan (I), 6-0, 6-0.
Third Singles - Joe Codomo (N) defeated Jawuan Beverly (I), 6-0, 6-0.
First Doubles - Charlie Bingham and Steve DelGrande (N) defeated Mohamed Amin and Derrick Estes (I), 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
Second Doubles - Jan Cepeda and Harley Minano (N) defeated Jorge Today and Lemuel White (I), 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
The ended with Nutley's season record at 4-10-0. Irvington's record: 4-7-0.
Columbia 3, Nutley 2 (May 4)
Nutley won the two doubles matches Friday, May 4, but Columbia took the three singles games to win the afternoon's contests, 3-2.
In first doubles, Charlie Bingham and Steven DelGrande defeated Columbia's David Lesesne and Sam Niggli, 6-1-7 to 2-6-6-. In the second doubles, it was Jan Cepeda and Harley Minano of Nutley over Columbia's Ethan Hein and Russell Simon, 3-7-6 to 6-6-4.
Results of first singles: Adam Richardson over Nutley's Dragos Stemate, 6-6 to 0-0. In the second singles, Max Hasse of Columbiia defeated Kevin Robinson of Nutley, 6-1,6-2.

Westfield swept the day on the Nutley tennis courts Monday, May 1. The results:
