Apr 3, 2012 – After trailing 4-3 for the four innings leading up to Nutley's final round at-bats, the Raiders exploded in the final seventh with three runs to win a 6-4 victory at West Essex yesterday (5/7) afternoon. Rocco Puzzo, who relieved Skylar Petretta on the mound in the fourth inning, was the winning pitcher giving up two hits.
Nutley took an early 1-0 first inning lead but West Essex countered in the second, scoed again in the third with two more runs in the fourth to take an commanding lead. Neither team scored in the fifth or sixth inning before Nutley's 3-run winning rally in the seventh.
Phil Condito ad Nick Gariano set the pace for the Raiders with Condito'sthree hits including two doubles and three stolen bases, and Gariano's two runs scored on two hits and two doubles.
Luke Kelly, Austin Kunz and Liaci each had singles while Jack Kraft led the day with two stolen bases.

Greater Newark Tournament
Nutley 1, Verona 0
Nutley's Kevin Garcia pitched all seven innings as the Raiders captured a 1-0 victory over Verona in the first round of the Greater Newark Baseball Tournament Friday on the Park Oval.
Garcia had strong support from the Nutley infield 's successfully handling of Verona's five base hits in the seven inning game.
Nutley's six hits Friday included both a single and double by Austin Kunz . Nutley also threatened Verona with singles off the bats of Phil Condito, Nick Gariano, Nick Liaci and Anthony Rossi.
Garcia struck out seven batters while giving up only one walk in the tournament game.
Verona's Luke Sniatkowski had 2 hits while teammates Dean Denicola, Kris Jones and Chris Ohlweller each had one.
The Raiders are scheduled to play again 4 p.m. Monday at West Essex High School.
