Burglars Breaking Into Occupied Nutley Homes
• It's Happened 3 Times in Past Two Weeks
Mar 28, 2012 – For the third time this week, burglars entered a Nutley home while the residents were at home, the most recent occurring two nights ago on McKinley Street. The residents here at home watching television in the basement while the burglar climbed through a rear window.
The residents heard foot-steps and called police who responded with K-9 dogs and fortunately in this instance, the police K-9 unit led officers to a Rutgers Avenue residence where a 20-year-old was arrested.
"These types of crimes are particularly dangerous as there's a good chance of the intruder's confronting with the danger quickly escalating," Public Safety Director Alphonse Petracco said tonight.
Police Chief John Holland says special patrols have been formed to supplement regular police units as detectives continue the investigations of the three most recent entries.
In Monday night's incident, police have arrested Michael Suppa, 20, for the possession of of drugs and related paraphernalia but charges of breaking into the home are still awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
