BIRTHDAY FLOWERS -- Mayor Joanne Cocchiola celebrated her birthday Monday, Dec. 20, as she presided over her last Board of Commissioners' session at Nutley Town Hall.
Dec 22, 2011 – Mayor Joanne Cocchiola's appointment as judge of the Nutley Municipal Court along with her resignation as mayor has been rescheduled until January 31, 2012. The date had to be postponed because of transitional details with her work with the NJSEA. The earlier NJHometown report was incorrect in stating that that holiday schedules with the Essex County judicial system forced the delay.
The January 31m 2012 date also is when Cocchiola's resignation as Mayor and Director of Public Affairs will now be effective.
Commissioners Tuesday night appear to have agreed to assign one of their own members to take on a dual role by overseeing operations of the Public Affairs Dept. once Mayor Cocchiola steps down.
Commissioners are still debating whether to appoint one of their own as the acting mayor. Statutes call for the Director of Revenue and Finance to preside over commission sessions unless an interim mayor is appointed.
Confidential discussions appear to suggest that Commissioners have dismissed the possibility of appointing a former member to temporarily fill the vacancy.
