Oct 18, 2010 – Nutley pulled out spectacular plays including a surprise field goal kick, a two-point safety and a crowd-rousing 47-yard pass from senior Nick Tedesco to Joe Drago with 47 seconds left in the game Saturday at the Park Oval.
Nutley then recovered an on-sides kick giving the Raiders another chance to score. But with one second left on the scoreboard, a 23-yard field goal kick hit the upright and bounced back to the field. A second attempt sailed to the right of the goal post and the game was over. Columbia had won 14-11.
Fans learned quickly how evenly matched the two Super Essex Conference teams were. After a scoreless first quarter, he first points in the game came early in the second period when junior Lou Meggiolaro's fourth down kick landed on the one-yard line. On the next play, Tedesco tackled Columbia's Denzel Nieves in the end zone and put two points for the Raiders on the scoreboard.
