Mayor Pleased With Nutley's July4th Celebrtion
• She Thanks Volunteers Who Ran Most of the Activities
Jul 28, 2010 – Mayor Joanne Cocchiola says this year's July 4th celebration in Nutley "continued our theme of good, old-fashioned fun." In a prepared statement, she thanked townspeople for joining in the holiday celebration.
"The Firecracker Competition - the traditional children's games in the Oval - was a
big hit with children of all ages coming out to show their skills. The competition
is always so fun to watch because the children's spirit is contagious.
"Thank you to all of our volunteers who are dedicated to this long-standing tradition. They
seamlessly run the events, registration and awards throughout the morning; to the
Nutley Board of Education and Phil Nicolette, who continue to support our efforts
and go above and beyond; our very own "Simon" - Jeff McCreesh; Rita's Ice of Nutley
for supplying the free Italian ice; and, of course, Frank Sasso and Fred Scalera -
the biggest supporters of our games.
"This year we continued our theme of good, old-fashioned fun. In lean times we were
able to count on the generosity of many talented people in our community to provide
entertainment to our residents and neighbors.
"A big thank you to Snooky the Clown of Razzle Dazzle Entertainment who volunteered her time and talents. And, to John Gizzi of Slipped Disc who went above and beyond to broadcast a live phone call with
Anthony Greco and Rob Bonora - our Coast to Coast for a Cure walkers. Also, big
thank you's to The Young and The Restless, Of the Ages, The Last Cab and The Dirty
Stayouts for joining our amazing celebration! I also cannot forget to thank Cecilia
Mielnicki, who managed to give us all goose bumps when she sang God Bless America
and the National Anthem for us. The talent in Nutley seems to be endless!
"There are so many other people who worked behind the scenes to make this day happen,
and words cannot express how thankful I am, and how fortunate we are as a community,
to have people around who are so dedicated to our township and its traditions. I would like to thank the following for their dedication and tireless efforts:
"Jack Barry, Paul Cafone, John Hund, Harry Kirk, Mike Luzzi, Loren McCreesh, Meredith
Blank, Phil Nicolette, Nutley F.M.B.A. Local #44, Barrett Pote, Bobby DeCilla, Tim
Koster, Tom Pandolfi, Kathy Rempusheski, and Nick Ugliarolo. A special thank you to
our Nutley Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Public Works and Parks &
Recreation Departments and the Nutley Board of Education and my own staff of the
Department of Public Affairs for all their support.
"Lastly, I would like to thank the people at D&M Fireworks for an amazing fireworks
display. In these tough economic times, and as a new vendor to our township, D&M
was incredibly sensitive to our budget. In fact, they quoted us the lowest price in
six years. The township was treated to a great patriotic display with non-stop
excitement
"Thank you, to all, again! Have a wonderful summer."
