Essex County Park Dedication to Honor Carmen Orechio
• DiVincenzo to Preside Over 2 PM Ceremonies in Nutley
Mar 31, 2010 – Essex County will honor Nutley's Carmen A. Orechio tomorrow in ceremonies dedicating its newly upgraded Yanticaw Park as the "Essex County Carmen A. Orechio Recreation Complex."
Ceremonies are planned at 2 p.m. promptly and will also launch Nutley High School's spring sports schedule including at 4 p.m. varsity softball game that will be played on one of the new artificial turf fields in the park.
"Few people have had such an impact on the development of our community as Carmen A. Orechio," Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr., the Essex County Executive said today. A resident of Nutley, DiVincenzo will preside over tomorrow's dedication ceremonies.
He extended an invitation to the general public to attend tomorrow's event which arks the completion of a five=phase project to rejuvenate and modernize the recreation facilities and park infrastructure.
"Carmen Orechio was a staunch advocate for public safety, health care and services to benefit children and senior citizens and his decisions enhanced the quality of live for generations of our residents,"
"In a public service career spanning over 40 years, Carmen helped shape the development of our State as President of the NJ State Senate and Nutley as a three-term Mayor and long-time Commissioners," the County Executive said.
DiVincenzo also noted his work with Orechio in the creation of the Nutley HAZMAT Unit, "one of the premiere agencies of its kind in the country. The Nutley HAZMAT team responds to emergencies throughout the county.
"We will meet near the bocce court on Park Drive," DiVincenzo said in welcoming townspeople to tomorrow's 2 p.m. event.
Nutley High School officials and athletes will also participate. The girls varsity softball team launches the Raiders' spring season with a 4 p.m. game in the new park against Caldwell.
Meanwhile tomorrow, the boys varsity baseball take takes on Bloomfield on the Park Oval, the boys lacrosse team faces Clifton and the boys tennis players take on Montclair – all games at 4 p.m. in Nutley.
